Our members are the life of our club and activities. All of the activities that are listed are activities are a result of our club members creativity.
A Car Show, also known as an auto show or a motor show, is a public exhibition of current models, debuts, concepts or out-of-production classics. The history of the car show goes back to the 1920’s. The San Jacinto Corvette Club (SJCC) was organized in 1957, four years after the Corvette was introduced, and the club has participated and hosted shows since inception. The car show allows members to showcase their cars whether they are vintage or current, custom or stock, street or race cars. The car show is more than just displaying cars that are not normally seen on the street, but it is a venue where the public is introduced to the organization to see the many facets of our car club plus it provides an avenue for the club to give back to our community. All of the proceeds from the car shows that are sponsored by SJCC are donated to a charity which historically has averaged about $8,500.00 per show. SJCC has proudly hosted the Kemah Boardwalk Corvette Show since 2004.
The San Jacinto Corvette Club has a long history of giving back to our community by supporting various charitable organizations. We have collected toiletry items, pop tabs, wine corks, Lay’s brand chip bags, Mar’s brand candy wrappers and newspapers at our monthly meetings. These items are used to support various charities. Our big fundraiser over the last several years is that we host the Kemah Car Show which benefits Kidz Harbor. Our car show averages about $8,500.00 in cash each year for our featured charity. We currently have active fundraising campaigns for Kidz Harbor and the National Corvette Museum.
Autocross is a form of motorsports that emphasizes safe competition and active participation. An autocross is a timed competition in which drivers navigate one at a time through a defined course on either a sealed or an unsealed surface. Autocross differs from road racing and oval racing in that generally there is only one car on the track, racing against the clock rather than other cars. As an entry-level motorsport, it provides a stepping stone for drivers looking to move into other more competitive and possibly expensive forms of racing (such as rallying and circuit racing).
A drag race is a competition in which two cars try to cross the finish line first. The race is a straight line race which is usually 1/4 of a mile with some tracks being 1/8 of a mile.
Periodically the club gets together to travel to a fun spot. Road trips can be a one-day event or a weekend or even a longer. All of the road trips have a theme such as the Tour de Fleur, the Fall Foliage Tour, the Bandit Run, or the Round Top Trip just to name a few.
We have fun at all of our events but some of our events have nothing to do with Corvettes but are strictly to have social activities. Events like the Annual Christmas Awards Party, the Annual Picnic, the Chili Cook-off and the Summer Backyard Bash.
We participate in different parades each year. This year we participated in the Friendswood Day Parade and the Veteran’s Day Parade.
