Le Chicken Run @ Humblewood Shopping Center
Feb 24 @ 9:00 AM

Join us as we once again traverse some of East Texas’s finer (?) twisty roads to that old cabin in the woods. You might have guessed it, we’re headed to Heritage Village, where we will sit down family style to a whole heap of good eat’n. Yep, talking about platters and platters of fried chicken, a whole heap of mashed potatoes, collard greens, lima beans, green beans, dumplings, yeast rolls, and big glasses of ice tea. Eat till you’re plum full and then top everything off with some peach cobbler.

Mar 17 @ 9:00 AM

Meet at the Northwest corner of Buc-ee’s parking lot.

Driver’s Meeting:  9:00 AM

Depart:  9:15 AM

A fun day out on a run through the hills stopping for lunch in Round Top at a quaint restaurant that we have not visited previously.   Followed by a short drive to a local winery for those that are interested.  We go rain, hail or shine, but of course, it never rains on an SJCC road trip!

For those who wish to travel to the winery after lunch, the winery charges $10 for 6 tastings, which can be shared between two people, i.e. 3 tastings each or you can just skip the tastings and go for a glass like me!

Neighbors Kitchen & Yard @ Buc-ee's - Katy
Apr 7 @ 8:00 AM

Ever think about riding in the MS150, but not on a bike? Join us for a fun run through the countryside west of Houston. We will run many of the same miles that the MS150 cyclists will travel in late April. Leaving AGAIN from Buc-ee’s (love those nice, clean bathrooms) in Katy, then winding our way thru Bellville, Winchester and Fayetteville.

We will end up at Neighbors Kitchen and Yard in Bastrop for a fun lunch on the banks of the Colorado River. Neighbors is a breath of fresh air, serving up quality scratch-made food, craft cocktails, and live tunes. If you want to hang around awhile after lunch, grab a seat on the deck and enjoy a cold one while you listen to The Merles, a classic country band out of Austin. Entertainment starts at 2:00 PM.

If you’re not into the live music, stroll a couple of blocks away and enjoy Bastrop. It is a quaint and charming small town with fantastic places to eat, shop and play. Downtown boasts numerous art galleries, antiques and craft shops. For something out of the ordinary, check out Bastrop’s Historic Farm Street Chicken Sanctuary, where chickens roam the street protected from fast drivers (those nasty Mustangs) and anyone wishing to harm them.

Heading home and looking for something different, try the ride through Bastrop and Buescher State Parks. Not going to break any speed records, but some beautiful views, even in the wake of the devastating fires. There is a small drive-thru fee, but all for a good cause.

*My apology and thanks to ZZ Top – Mike K.

We are going to do a little cruzin ’ thru the back roads to La Grange (did ya guess) and have lunch at Bistro 108. Bistro 108 has been described as “A diamond in the rough,” excellent food and terrific wine selection
