River Rentals:
Texas Tubes (texastubes.com; 830-626-9900) is located across the driveway from the River Run Condos. Tubes w/o a bottom cost $10/day; tubes with a bottom run $13/day; these prices include a group discount and shuttle services (but remember to bring a little $ to tip your driver).
Comal River Ordinances:
Glass or foam containers are not allowed on any waterway in Texas.
Volume drinking devices or containers under 5 fluid oz. are not allowed.
Coolers up to a 16 quart size are welcome on the rivers.
Please note that all coolers must have a locking mechanism to prevent spillage (a zipper, Velcro fastener, latch, or cord to keep cooler lids on.)
What to bring:
Swim suit & beach towel, sunglasses, old tennis shoes or water socks, sun-visor or hat, suntan lotion or sunscreen, ice chest (up to 16 quart size) with drinks.
Directions to River Run Condos:
From Houston, take I-10 W to St. Hwy 46 exit (towards New Braunfels). Turn North onto St. Hwy 46 and go approx 13 miles until you come to I-35. Take I-35 W (also U.S. Hwy 81) until you reach exit #187 (Bus. 46/Seguin Ave).
Turn North on Bus. 46/Seguin Ave and travel a little over 1 mile. Go halfway around Main Plaza circle and get into the right hand lane. At the second stop sign turn right on Zink St. Next, turn left onto N. Market and go over the RR tracks. River Run Condos will be on the right.
Other Pertinent Information:
Most of you will probably want to bring something for lunch so we can go down the river again in the afternoon. Just make sure you bring some extra cash for tipping your bus driver and for any incidentals like more beer, ice, etc.
Academy (sometimes Wal-Mart) has some cool ice chests made just for floating down the river (approx $20)… no tube needed… I talked to Texas Tubes; they said they still see those on the river, so it looks like they must be less than 16 quarts.
If you plan to go… Pick your condo-mates, Make your reservations, and call or e-mail me so I can put you on the master list.
